Description
Properties:
- Georgette is a fine, semi-transparent, and lightweight fabric made using a plain weave, and like other crepes, it is manufactured using highly twisted yarns. The characteristic matte and crinkled surface of georgette is generated by alternating S and Z twisted yarns in both the warp and weft.
- It is characterized by its crinkled appearance and soft, flowing drape. Georgette has a slightly rough surface and a matte finish, giving it an elegant and sophisticated look. It is a highly versatile fabric and is widely used in the making of garments such as dresses, blouses, skirts, and scarves.
- Durable and tear resistant due its weaving structure.
- The term fil coupé refers to a weaving technique in which the threads of the fabric are selectively cut to create a textured or decorative design. The term originates from French and means “cut thread”. In the fil coupé process, additional weft threads are inserted into the fabric during weaving. These additional threads are usually weaker and made of a material that can be easily cut. After the fabric is woven, the additional weft threads are cut, creating loose areas of thread that form the desired design. The final result is a fabric with textured areas or loose threads that create a specific pattern or design.
